Meditation brings health and happiness

When you rest the nervous system by meditation, your brain works at peak efficiency. This means you will display more intelligence, more creativity and more feelings. This is especially significant as happiness and success both depend, to a large extent, on these three factors.

Rest also makes you feel good since it relaxes the nervous system and allows it to be recharged with energy. The deep rest produced by meditation is mainly due to the reduction in the number of thoughts you have, a quantum that decreases significantly when you meditate.

Thoughts actually produce waves that are registered in the brain as electrical activity. If our thoughts are excessive (as they are in most of us) then this electrical activity becomes excessive and it is a disturbance to the brain. We feel this unpleasantness and tension in the mind and call it stress.

Meditation greatly reduces the amount of activity in the brain. The brain becomes calm and we can feel this in the mind as a pleasant peacefulness. In meditation the brain is given a rest, which allows it to recuperate and rejuvenate.

Deep rest also activates the body’s healing processes, allowing rejuvenation of the body to occur. Once the metabolic rate slows down, the body redirects part of its energy for healing and rejuvenation, and as a result we become much healthier.
