Looking Within

When we observe life carefully we realise that right from our childhood we have only been trained in how to examine and understand things in the external world and that no one has taught us how to look within.

Our entire training for life has been externally oriented. We are always taught how to move and behave in the world we live in, but we are never really taught how to be still and examine what is within ourselves. We have not been taught how to still ourselves, create silence within and observe the inner realm of our thoughts, feeling or actions. With such a lack of training we are unable to have a clear understanding of our deeper selves.

Meditation teaches you how to observe, understand and master your inner world. When you learn to sit still, you attain a kind of joy that can only be experienced by a human being through meditation. All the other joys in the world are transient and momentary, but the joy of meditation is immense and everlasting.

Meditation is a powerful tool that makes life complete. In fact, it even helps us in connecting with our external world, and enjoying it deeper. Just try it. You will find yourself exploring beautiful new vistas.

Make your life better today – add meditation to it!

Meditation makes you happy & healthy too

Meditation brings happiness – this is a truth well known. What is less known is the fact that meditation is therapeutic from the moment you decide to take it up seriously.

Meditation helps to relax tension within your muscles and your nervous system; it also helps provide freedom from mental stress. A person in meditation attains a tranquil mind and this helps the body’s immune system by limiting its reaction to stress and strain.

Our health can be greatly benefited by meditation. Experts classify most diseases to some degree as psychosomatic, having their origins in, or being influenced by, the human mind, thoughts and emotions. Scientists have begun to recognise that these diseases cannot be cured only by the conventional methods of orthodox medicine or psychotherapy, because if the disease originates in the mind or is caused by various emotional reactions, how is it possible for external therapy alone to restore your health?

Additionally, if you rely only on external remedies and do not seek to understand your own mind and emotions, you may become dependent on a therapist or a physician for help. In contrast, the process of meditation makes you self-reliant, shows you the real cause of the problem, gives you effective tools and helps you attain the inner strength necessary to deal more effectively with all your problems, including those related to your health.

Meditation helps you to live life the way it was always meant to be; a life full of happiness, joy, inner freedom and good health.

So whatever else you fill your life with, make sure you always find time and space for meditation!

Practicing Right is the Key!

‘Practice makes perfect’ is an adage we are all familiar with.
I beg to differ…

There is no point in doing something the wrong way, and repeating it till it becomes second nature. The key lies in doing something the right way, and then practicing it repeatedly.

I believe that “Perfect practice makes perfect."
Meditation is no different, practicing it the right way makes all the difference.

It is very easy to begin the practice of meditation. And the first step is in finding the right teacher and the right environment for you to learn from.

Just like everything else, there are many good teachers around teaching authentic wisdom – you just need to search diligently till you find the one that suits you.

Once you find the path, the next thing to do is to walk it!
You simply have to decide that you are going to meditate! Despite the temptations and the distraction and all the things that need to be done, you are simply going to meditate!

So practice, practice, practice your way, perfectly, to a more peaceful and positive life.

Ancient meditation goes high tech!

Google has been in the news for a different reason recently.  They are another of the leading companies that have introduced meditation to their employees in Silicon Valley.

Their view is that meditation teaches their employees to manage their emotions better, as well as make them better workers in the process.

I stand behind Google on this one. Having conducted meditation training for companies such as Siemens Healthcare, Ogilvy and Mather, Airtel, Bordier and Cie, Abacus Capital, The Malaysian Liver Foundation, J. Walter Thompson, The Times of India Group, HCL Technologies & Albert David Inc. to name just a few, I know Google is on the right track.
Repeated studies have demonstrated that meditation can rewire how the brain responds to stress. Boston University researchers showed that after as little as three and a half hours of meditation training, subjects tend to react less to emotionally charged images. Other research also suggests that meditation improves working memory and executive function.

So in addition to all the other benefits of meditation I have written about earlier, you can now add being a more productive and creative individual to the list!

So start off the New Year with a gift to yourself (and to everyone around you too) by adopting the path of meditation into your life!

Helping you to sing your own song

As you live this journey called life…
Remember to sing your own song, dance your own dance and shine your light upon this world.

The Masters say – The bird does not sing because it has the truth, it sings because it has a song.

Live. Learn. Laugh. Love.

Sing your own song!

See the reality

A peaceful life is what all human beings are meant to live, and aspire for. As we get embroiled in our day-to-day concerns, worries, regrets and guilt, we forget this fundamental reality. We waste far too much energy on things that are not a reflection of the real world and in the process, become so accustomed to the negative state of mind that we assume they make up our reality.

This reality then begins to pervade our inner being and negatively affects our thoughts, our actions and our relationships to the exclusion of positive impulses, feelings and emotions. Often this makes us become irritable and tense all the time.

All through our lives we carry with us two heavy burdens – the thoughts and regrets of the past and the worries and expectations of the future. These burdens weigh us down, and also take our attention away from life as it happens. We constantly live in the past and the future, and in the bargain, we sacrifice the present.

Meditation allows us to see reality as it is, and take a rest from our deeply ingrained and conditioned patterns of behavior.

Meditation is not necessarily a way to make things easier, it is a way to make things real. What meditation does is make you more aware, so if you have a painful problem in life, meditation will probably bring your attention to it to enable you to accept the truth.

Meditation will not let you hide from reality any more. It will compel you to step right into the middle of it and face it. Issues can no longer be avoided or wished away. They must be accepted fully and then the choice of what you wish your future to be must be exercised.

Change is a natural process of life and leads to personal growth if we nurture it with positive energies. If you opt to do this through the techniques of meditation you will be able to achieve your life goals more easily and in a more enduring manner.
