Meditation in Singapore – Top 3 Benefits of Meditation

By Vikas Malkani
14th September 2016

Meditation shows you how you function, how you create your life experience and even how to choose what you want your life to be. In other words, meditation is the fastest path to understanding the mind and taking charge of your life!

The benefits of meditation are many. It works on the physical body and also goes deeper to the emotional and mental levels of the practitioner. Those who continue to learn and grow with meditation find emotional and spiritual benefits too.

Learning the ‘Meditation Made Simple’ class at SoulCentre is easy, and the meditation techniques can be practised anywhere to see quick benefits.
Even a few minutes a day of meditation practice brings about very important benefits. Here are the top 3 from my perspective –

1)  Meditation reduces stress and improves health problems - Up to 70% of health problems are psychosomatic, that is, they have a mental origin, so it is easy to understand how control over our thoughts that meditation brings can help many of these disorders.

Meditation releases stress, which then causes our muscles to relax, including the muscular walls of our blood vessels. This means more blood can pump through the vessels and there is less resistance to the overall flow. This means less blood pressure.

In contrast, high blood pressure is recognised as a major factor in producing heart diseases and heart attacks.

2)  Meditation develops a whole-brain perspective - Studies show meditation has a balancing and harmonising effect on the right and left hemispheres of the brain.

Our left hemisphere is responsible for our logical thinking. The right side is responsible for feelings. Due to fast-paced modern life, many of us tend to operate more from the left hemisphere. We think too much and analyse too much, at the expense of our feelings.

Meditation allows us to have the right balance of logical analytical thought and emotional feelings, thus helping develop a ‘whole brain’ mind-set.

3)  Meditation creates happiness, compassion and gratitude - One method of meditation is mindfulness, which is all about living in the moment, rather than focusing on past regrets or future worries. Naturally, this creates feelings of relaxation, gratitude, joy and happiness. One becomes more patient and compassionate with the practice of meditation.

Relaxed blood vessels allow increased blood flow to all body parts. Increased blood flow to the brain means we feel fresher and can think more clearly.

Meditation also reduces the production of the body’s stress hormones. Studies show that hormone levels in those who practice meditation regularly are similar to those in people up to ten years younger. This is one of the reasons why meditators look and feel younger.

With regular meditation, we tend to fall asleep quicker and our sleep is deeper. This means we get a better quality sleep and wake up feeling fresher and more alive. We also feel more energetic and calmer throughout the day.

Reiki Demystified - What is Natural Healing?

7th September 2016

"Imagine listening to your body and knowing how you can support it - this is the secret of natural healing."

Sally Forrest

Once you tune out of all the external distractions of the world, and begin to tune into yourself and your own inner messages, then miracles can happen.

Reiki natural healing is simply the ability to really connect with and listen to your own body and then use the energy of the universe to bring healing and balance to your body.

A peaceful body is in harmony with itself and is in balance.

A body with "Dis-ease" simply means that it is out of balance and harmony, it has moved away from ease and symptoms now develop.

Sally believes that if a body knows how to make itself "dis-eased" then it also knows how it can make itself healthy and whole.

All we need to do is to tune in and to listen.

Reiki is an easy to learn process whereby you can use the universal energy (the energy that makes the waves form, the wind blow, the trees bend etc.) to bring natural healing to yourself and others.

You begin to have awareness that emotions play a crucial role in our health and healing and learn to see where emotions impact and are stored in the body.

For example if you worry a lot, then your stomach area will be affected and you will have symptoms such as reflux, irritable bowel, weight gain etc.…

If you are hard on yourself, over controlling and take on too much, then you can get headaches and also shoulder issues.

Sally teaches Reiki from beginner level all the way to Certified Teacher level.

A medical pharmacist by training, Sally realised that many people in the world have no access to medicines yet can heal themselves in various ways.

This was the beginning of her journey into the mind-body connections and she has been learning and teaching for over 15 years.

Her next courses are in October and she offers both mid week and weekend dates.

Please do connect- it will be the best gift that you can give to yourself and your family.

Outer Stress Relief - How to manage your environment

Just for a moment "STOP" and think about your home, your office, your environment that you spend so much time in.

How does it feel to you?
Does it fill you with happiness, joy and peace, or is it chaotic, confused and cluttered?

Your external environment plays a significant role in your internal environment and your thoughts, your emotions and actions are all influenced by it.

With today’s fast paced world, we excel at being busy, and sometimes our environment is not a priority to us.

Also we are turning into a nation of shop-a-holics and hoarders and soon every available space is stuffed full of "possessions" and all this stuff literally wears us down, as we need to take care of it all.

So make a decision to take control of your environment.

Simplify - Simplify - Simplify is the motto!

Start with the front door / your home or office entrance, and take a look at what story it is telling to the world.

The beautiful energy of the universe enters into your space through this door, so make a point of welcoming it with appreciation and love.

5 TOP TIPS:
  1. Clear away any clutter that block the energy entering into your home (both inside and outside the main door).
  2. Ensure all plants are healthy, vibrant and alive.
  3. Spruce up the paintwork and make the door welcoming.
  4. Clean the space – a sparkling clean door and entrance is so welcoming.
  5. Make it bright and attractive.

Once you do this, notice the difference.
Change will happen within a few days.
Don’t believe me? Then try it … it's amazing and it works.

My Journey as a SoulKids Mentor...

After going through a particularly challenging time with health, I enrolled in a ‘Meditation Made Simple’ class in London. Eventually, I found myself travelling to Singapore to continue my learning in meditation with Vikas Malkani the founder of this program as it had such a profound effect on my life.

During my training with Vikas & Sally at SoulCentre, for the first time I understood the importance of silence, living in the now, connection to the senses, breath and self-awareness. I also learned how to manifest, about frequency vibrations and the corresponding emotions of love, gratitude and joy.

Karma, compassion and the ego were topics of particular fascination. It was quite revelatory to discover that we are all consciously connected and that we create our own reality. It was also quite astounding to learn that the universe is a hologram and that a change in one place is an instantaneous change everywhere.

While in Singapore I also undertook SoulKids Mentor Training to be trained as a mentor in the SoulKids self-confidence workshop. This training and hands on experience with children ages 5 through 11 reminded me of the wonder, curiosity, creativity and individual uniqueness of each of them.
How lovely to see a shy and troubled child open like a beautiful flower. During the SoulKids training for children, the hugs, games and lessons went of for 2 days but have forever changed the way I see people and life. Each of us has a unique purpose on this planet. Through conditioning, we begin to doubt and fear who we really are. We develop blocks and begin to subconsciously create negative elements in our life and in the world.

Upon returning to London from Singapore, I found that I was much changed. I would spontaneously fall into awe when looking out of the window at the wonder and beauty of nature. I had absolute clarity about my life and my path. I became unbelievably sensitive to all stimuli, artificial and natural. My food choices changed and I could no longer drink caffeine and alcohol. In addition, I only see people from their energy vibration, not their physicality or intellect.

I am full of compassion and love for humanity and plan to spend each day left to me fulfilling my purpose to help others.

How to stay calm in the storm...

8 powerful strategies to swim while others are sinking

The storm is all around us. Stock-markets plunge, economies around the world go into a tail-spin, and thousands lose their jobs and their livelihood. Relationships break up under the stress, divorce rates shoot up and millions across the world slide into debt for years to come. News of doom and gloom is the flavour of the day, every day. Everywhere you look, un-certainty and in-stability reigns.

How do we handle this storm that has come upon us? How do we stay centred even as the world shakes? How do we swim while others are sinking?

Here are 8 focused qualities that are powerful solutions to a time of crisis, guaranteed to keep you calm in the storm of life.
  1. Have a willingness to make and follow hard choices  Crisis forces you to take a realistic look at the bigger picture of your life and make some hard choices to move forward. Be willing to do this rather than resist it. Make difficult choices if you need to and demonstrate a whatever-it-takes attitude. Remember, it takes less energy to get an unpleasant task done “right now” than to worry about it all day.
  2. Have a personal vision  Having a personal goal of getting out of the crisis, as it will become the light that guides you forward. A goal will motivate you and make it easier to take corrective measures while having no goal will just make you drift and lose direction through the crisis. Goals give you power. Choose not to waste your precious present life on guilt about the past or concern for the future.
  3. Set a clear strategy  To reach the goal, plan a clear strategy, and communicate it to others who are a part of it. Plan your journey forward and walk the plan. It is a truth that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Simplify your life!  Start eliminating the trivial things.  Also  don't major in minor things. Eliminate unnecessary commitments.
  4. Be persistent  Probably the key quality to coming out of crisis is persistence  a determined mind that just never gives up. Once your mind is set, stick to your target with Crab-like persistence, changing only if a better way shows itself. Practice consciously doing one thing at a time, keeping your mind focused on the present.
  5. Capitalize on opportunity  There is good even in the worst of times. Identify this by looking deeply at how you can benefit in the long term from the current crisis. Be quick to spot opportunity and to seize it to your advantage. Warren Buffet, the world's best performing investor, is famously known for making his greatest and largest purchases at a time of crisis when everyone else is selling. Welcome change as an opportunity and challenge to learn and grow
  6. Be patient  Be willing to wait for the reward of your efforts. Believe that the strong man is a patient man. A crisis has little flexibility for the impatient or the irritable. Take time to be alone on a regular basis, to listen to your heart, check your intentions; re-evaluate your goals and your activities. If your schedule is busy, prioritise your activities and do the most important ones first.
  7. Follow your vision with constant and constructive action  Take positive and persistent action on a regular basis. Even if the results are not fast to come, trudge on ahead towards your goal. Take baby steps if you have to, but whatever you do, make sure you are moving ahead all the time. The direction you are going in is important, not the speed. Plan to do something each day that takes you one step forward.
  8. Stay optimistic  The night is darkest before the dawn breaks. Behind every dark cloud is a silver lining. The sun shines even when the clouds cover it. The dark night leads to sunrise and the day will end in darkness. Be aware of the larger movements and rhythms of life and stay optimistic even as you go through this time of chaos and crisis. You are bigger than it, and this is not the end of your life; it is just a comma in the sentence of your life, not the full stop. Having a positive mind-set is the greatest asset you can have in a time of inner or outer crisis.

Meditation is my Passion and my Treasure, by Narjes Gorjizadeh

Since childhood I was interested in learning and knowing about science, philosophy, and different cultures. No surprise that I became a scientist, travelled the world doing research and living in different cultures, to discover more every day.

But deep inside I was craving something more; there was something unsatisfied and unfulfilled within me. I was desperately looking for the answer on how to find real happiness; how to discover and bring out the real potential I have.

I was also inevitably being pulled more and more by the high pace of life and work and was stressed out. I reached a point where I needed to learn effective techniques to stay calm, and that was when I went to SoulCentre to learn meditation from Vikas.

Not only did I learn how to relax in my daily life, more importantly I also found the answer to my life-long question on how to find my true happiness. Vikas taught me systematically and in simple language the deep and scientific wisdom of meditation. Vikas taught me how to create happiness and peace within so difficulties in life would not negatively affect me.

Since I started practicing the meditation techniques that I learned from Vikas, my heart became calm. Through meditation, I learned to see the beauty in my life and around me, and appreciate the countless blessings that I have. Through meditation, and what Vikas taught me, I now know that when you find beauty within, you find beauty everywhere.

Meditation transformed me into a much happier and more positive person. The more I practice meditation, the more I see its benefits. Today mediation is a priority and passion in my daily life.

I cant thank Vikas enough for all the wonderful lessons I learned from him. I benefitted so much that I want to share this amazing life-changing wisdom and effective techniques with others so that more people can benefit too. That’s why I trained with Vikas to become a Certified Meditation Teacher with SoulCentre, and now I can help others to be happy too.

I am now leaving Singapore for Sydney to continue my research in physics, and I know that my hands are full of priceless wisdom – a treasure that I want to share with people in Australia.

Thank you Vikas for changing my life and giving me the ability to change others’ lives too.

Meditation with a Mantra

To help facilitate the process of meditation, people can choose to use a mantra.  Mantras are words, sounds, phrases or syllables of creative power that are repeated in order to aid concentration.

The repetition of a mantra is a means of improving focus and the power of concentration whilst meditating.

It can help both your body and your mind to relax and can allow you to forget about your worries and the causes of your stress. With a peaceful mind, meditation becomes easier.

Different kinds of mantras are used throughout the world, and all are good.  They all have a similar goal which is to help you focus your mind.

If you choose to take up a mantra you will very soon notice that all the qualities and attributes of the mantra will come to life within you.  The mantra literally comes a part of you and infuses you with its qualities.

The spiritual law of “as you think so you become” makes the practitioner literally become what the mantra is. So choose your mantra wisely, and get started on meditation.
