Passion is the secret sauce of Success

Passion is the secret sauce of Success

By Vikas Malkani
The Wisdom Coach, Founder of SoulCentre, www.soulcentre.org

28th March 2018

Why do some people become successful while others don’t?
What is it that separates the successful from those who are not?
What is the quality that all successful people have in common?

Everybody wants success. Everyone also wants happiness and a sense of being significant.
All human beings, irrespective of who they are or where they come from, essentially look for two things in their lives – happiness and success. But not all have it and many spend years chasing it. So what is it that successful people have that others don’t?

Success leaves Clues
The successful have one quality in common. And that quality is Passion. A deep passion for what they do. Take a look at any field – business, sports, arts, service or any other. The most successful people in any particular field are the ones that are completely passionate about what they do. They love what they do and that drives them to success.

Passion is the secret sauce of success. Passion brings energy and joy into your actions. Passion is the fuel that keeps everything else moving. Passion is what drives the actions to get the results. The more the passion, the more results you produce.

The Power of Passion
We are all born with passion inside of us. All of us have it but not all of us are able to find it and maximize it. Often we don’t find it because we are not looking in the right place. To truly find your passion, you must get to the root of who you are. We are what we think. And we think either based on our love or our fear. Those are the two elements of our life. All our thoughts come from either love or fear. When you look at the things you love, you find your passion. And that passion leads you to success.

Whenever you are passionate about something you have high energy. You want to do more of it and it is a joy. However, you must understand the difference between passion and a passing desire. A passing desire is something that changes every day, while a passion is something that’s very deep, driving and very stable.

Passion makes discipline, determination and dedication easy. Passion helps us to overcome the challenges and not be defeated by the defeats. All of this further helps us to create the success we desire and deserve.

Find your passion and use it to create your success.

When you really find your passion, it’s not going to change each day. It is consistent and stable. Any action fueled by passion puts you on fire and you want to do it regardless of the consequences, regardless of the results. When you find your passion, you’re doing it for the passion. You’re doing it for yourself. We are born to find our passion and share it with the world. If the world appreciates it, they give you the results you want. But if they don’t, you are still happy doing it. Eventually you find your tribe.

How to find your Passion
To find your passion, every day you must take some time out for yourself. Make sure you have some TOFU every day. TOFU is Time Out For U.

Find time to have a few minutes for yourself and to go within. Look inside yourself to find your passion, not outside. Look within yourself to find authenticity and integrity. Take time out, be silent, and look within. Attend ‘Meditation Made Simple’ at SoulCentre and learn to meditate so you can silence the noisy mind we all have. It is in silence that you find inspiration and your passion. And it is this passion that will drive you to success.

Passion in Action
If you want to see passion in action, check out my award-wining talk from Mega Success USA, an annual convention where the top entrepreneurs and business people from around the world converge to build relationships, learn, network and grow.

I presented to over 2500 delegates from 71 countries, and at the end of the convention, I won a TOP SPEAKER award.

It’s a great testimony that passion creates success and you can watch it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD04-aifNmM&feature=share

An interview with leading meditation teacher Vikas Malkani

Vikas was recently interviewed for a magazine. He explained what meditation is and shared a few simple, yet profound meditation techniques as well! We are happy to share this article with you. Enjoy the read!

The Chinese New Year is around the corner. How do I prep myself for a good year ahead?
If you want to have a good year ahead with positive results, the most important element to get right is your mind-set. You start each day with your own thoughts, and end everyday with your own thoughts too. The thoughts you have create the emotional states you experience which then drive your actions and behaviours. The results you get in life are due to the actions you take. Thus it’s clear that your mind-set is the start of the results you achieve in your life.
It is no surprise that meditation is used by professionals in many fields to assure optimum performance. Hollywood Stars, Professional Athletes, Business Leaders, Investment Legends, Entrepreneurs and A-listers such as Oprah Winfrey, Ray Dalio, Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, Gordon Summers (Sting), Cameron Diaz, Paul McCartney, Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad Poor Dad), Eckhart Tolle, Anthony Robbins, Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer, are all people who meditate.
In my recent meeting with Hollywood Stars John Travolta and Mark Wahlberg, I was happy to hear that both of them give a high priority to wisdom and meditate on a daily basis.
The lesson is clear - Create a positive mind-set, and you have primed yourself to have a great year ahead.
What is mindfulness and meditation? How do I practise it? Are they the same?
Meditation is an ancient science of understanding our mind and training it to be our friend, not our enemy. Doing this is necessary if we value our happiness, peace, clarity, compassion and the many other positive emotional states of life, because our thoughts create our emotional states. We can choose our own emotions only if we can choose our own thoughts and that’s what meditation trains us to do.
You can also think of meditation as a way of training the mind, just as you would use various exercises to train the body.
Mindfulness is just a subset of the science of meditation. It started in the US about 50 years ago, and includes a few of the techniques that are taught in meditation and also some of its wisdom concepts.
How do I incorporate mindfulness and meditation into my daily life?
It’s necessary to start your meditation training with the right understanding. Think of meditation as getting more mentally fit and in balance; more in control of your emotions and personal peace.
Here are 2 easy ways to incorporate meditation and mindfulness into your daily life.
Beginners Meditation 1
One of the easiest ways to begin meditating is by focusing on the breath, which is a great way to improve focus and concentration. By focusing on a single thing, like the action of following the breath, repeating a single word (mantra) or staring at a specific object (a painting, a tree or a candle flame), a beginner can start to meditate.
Focus your attention on the chosen object, and each time you notice your mind wandering off, simply bring your attention back to the object of your focus. Start with only a few minutes at a time and slowly increase the duration.
Beginners Meditation 2
Another easy way for beginners is by practicing Mindfulness Meditation, which involves observing your thoughts with attention but without judgement or engagement. The intention is not to get involved with the thoughts that crop by in your mind, or to judge them, but simply to be aware of each thought as it arises. You may begin to realise you have a tendency to quickly judge an experience, thought, or person as good or bad, pleasant or unpleasant. You may also notice that your thoughts and feelings move in particular patterns. With practice, an inner stillness and balance begins to develop, and the mind quietens down from its erratic, active and agitated way of being.
There are many other techniques of meditation, but the 2 that I have described above are sufficient to get you started.
I also highly recommend you to find a good teacher, someone you resonate with and who can explain the intricacies of meditation to you in a logical and scientific manner.
Learn from such a teacher and you will soon begin to experience the powerful and positive effects meditation can have in your life.
What sort of good practices would you recommend for my daily life?
A few simple habits will also support your happiness, peace of mind, focus and mental clarity:
1) Limit your time on social media, and checking into other people’s lives
2) Set yourself 5 important things to accomplish, at the start of the day
3) Set aside enough time for those important to you (partner, kids, family etc.)
4) Spend some time daily reading inspirational material; it is nourishment to your soul
5) Take time out to meditate everyday (or a few times a day). 5 minutes at a time, 3 times a day is ideal to start with.
6) Don’t hang out with negative people, they are toxic to your happiness and success
7) Eat food that is nourishing and healthy

Meditation For Busy Mums

Vidhya Shailesh
SoulCentre Certified Meditation Teacher
9th August 2017

Juggling between work and home, coordinating the children’s schedules, driving them to and from their classes, seamlessly attempting to run your home and keeping abreast and on top of everything – such is an average day in the life of a busy mum. The never ending demands of the family and the to-do lists that never seem to get done can often make you feel like you are just running from pillar to post day in and day out. Life often gets into such a crazy routine cycle that one day rolls on to another and on to another and months sometimes years pass by too quickly.

If you are such a busy mum who often finds yourself with more than you can handle, then meditation is the solution for you. As a mother of two, I often find myself in similar situations and even in times when it appears I have no time, I often turn towards meditation to center myself and find my balance. I am often asked, “When do you get the time to meditate?” I believe, if you try and find time, you always can. Meditation is a way of life. The wisdom and practices of meditation help us train our minds and take control of our emotions. Meditation teaches us to live joyfully. So here’s a few tips from meditation that busy mums can benefit from.

1)  Start your day on a positive note.
As soon as you wake up, even before your mind starts thinking about the many things you need to get done, spend a few minutes setting the intention for the day. Offer gratitude for the many blessings life has gifted you and see the day as an opportunity to contribute. When you start the day on a positive note, it lays down the foundation for the rest of the day. Many times through the day, whenever you feel you are getting overwhelmed, stop and reconnect to the many blessings in your life. Gratitude has the power to change you from the inside. It creates a feeling of happiness and peace on the inside and this reflects in your actions through the day. As you end the day, reflect on the day gone by and offer gratitude for it once again.

2)  Meditate by focusing on your breath.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t necessarily need an hour to sit and meditate always. Depending on the situation, sometimes even a 3-minute practice can help you feel better. Make it a habit to focus on your breath for a few minutes every now and then. You might be waiting at the parking lot of the school to pick your child up, or riding a taxi to your next appointment. Use the time to just close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. With each breath, focus on the inhalation and exhalation. Repeat this for a few minutes till you feel relaxed.

3)  Be in the moment.
Meditation teaches you to bring your attention to the moment. While we may all have long list of things to do, we have to understand that at any given moment, you can only handle the task on hand. Prioritize your list and focus on what needs to get done at this moment. You might be approaching a project deadline and planning your child’s birthday party within the same week. Learn to compartmentalize your mind. Meditation teaches you to focus on one thing. When you are at a particular task, the training helps you avoid thinking about all the other things you need to get done. With greater focus, comes better efficiency. Move through your list this way one thing at a time. For example, when you are working on your project, give it your full attention. Once that is done, you can focus on planning the birthday party. Trying to do both at the same time, only leads to stress and neither gets done properly.

4)  Choose what you fill your day with.
We all have the same twenty-four hours in a day. Therefore, choose the things you would like to fill your day with and let go of things that just take up too much of your time. Delegate where possible and give small responsibilities to the children as well. This will not only clear up your time, it will also make them accountable.

5)  Find joy in all that you do.
Meditation teaches you to live joyfully. When you are simply moving from one thing to the next on your to-do list, it is often easy to become disconnected and mechanical. Remember to stop and connect with life every now and then. Find joy in everything that you do. Even the seemingly mundane things you do can become joyful if you just change your perspective.

Meditation helps us become aware of our thoughts. Everything in our life starts at the level of our thoughts. Take charge of your thoughts to take charge of your life. Do not allow the routine and rigors of an ever demanding life consume you. Learn meditation at SoulCentre® and benefit from the wisdom and techniques on a daily basis. Live your life joyfully and get more out of your life.

What Is Enlightenment?

Vikas Malkani
SoulCentre®
2nd August 2017

A question that has troubled spiritual teachers and students alike for thousands of years ... What Is Enlightenment?

Many words have been used to define enlightenment - moksha, awakening, samadhi, nirvana, universal consciousness, satori and so many more.
Here's the simplest metaphor to understand it.
Imagine you are asleep and dreaming that you are living a normal life. In the dream, everything seems real - what you eat, where you go, who you meet and what you do. You feel emotions, take actions and have experiences.
Everything seems real, very real in this dream.
And then suddenly, something happens and you wake up!
There is an immediate and transformational ah-ha! A realisation that 'I was asleep, and everything was just a dream. Now I am awake.’
That what I thought was real, was not real. In fact, this is reality.
You wake up from what you thought was real, and see reality as it is!
This is enlightenment, often also referred to as 'Awakening'.
The word 'enlightenment' is used to also denote 'being in the light of truth', a way of saying you woke up and actually see what's true.
What leads to it?
There are essentially only 3 ways:
1) The path of authentic meditation, which brings wisdom and tools that create inner transformation
2) Finding and following a genuine spiritual teacher who has experienced enlightenment, and who can guide you to the experience.
3) A big balance of positive karma, which leads to the search for spiritual wisdom and a spiritual teacher, which eventually brings awakening!
The enlightened masters have stated that we are all on the path to enlightenment already, every one of us.
It's just that we are all progressing at different paces. But eventually, enlightenment is the final destination for all of us.
Knowing this, why delay?
There you have it - enlightenment made simple!
Learn Meditation and Mindfulness at SoulCentre® and take charge of your own health, happiness and peace of mind.
In just a few sessions through our unique Meditation Made Simple program, you will learn some valuable techniques that you can use on an ongoing basis.
At SoulCentre® we conduct meditation classes right from beginner levels and you have the option of continuing the training to become certified as a teacher should you choose to.

Stage Fright? Anxiety? Overcome It With Meditation

Vikas Malkani,
Founder of SoulCentre
21st June 2017

Stage fright can happen long before you even get near a stage. The mere thought of standing in front of an audience can make your heart flutter or pound, the palms of your hand get cold and sweaty, and your knees start to shake and your mouth go dry. Your stomach may even get upset.

Public speaking is one of our most common fears, being rated above flying, financial loss, sickness, and even death. The fear can get so bad that some people may become physically ill before getting on stage. But this fear, often called performance anxiety or stage fright, is actually about the underlying social psychology of exposing oneself to an audience.
It happens to even the most experienced performers and even to ordinary people going for a job interview. Celebrities with stage fright include Rod Stewart, Barbara Streisand, Mel Gibson, and Carol Burnett. World class speakers like Anthony Robbins have admitted feeling queasy before their first performances and many prominent athletes tend to suffer from it as well.
Like most phobias, stage fright is a natural response to situations that are perceived to be dangerous or somehow detrimental. Psychologists who work with stage fright patients describe how their inner talk tends to focus on those things that could go wrong during the performance leading to a potential failure.
Studies have shown that these fears can be driven by perfectionism, an ongoing desire for personal control, fear of failure and an intense anxiety about not being able to perform properly when the time comes.
Psychologists have also observed that people with stage fright tend to place a high value on being liked and regarded with high esteem.
Thankfully, there are a number of things that can be done about it.

Here are 3 ways which will help you overcome your stage fright and performance anxiety:-

1) MEDITATION Meditation is the science of training your mind to serve you rather than to harm you. Meditation is an ancient process that is scientific and structured and most efficient when learned from a qualified and capable teacher. By training your mind, you can overcome the fear that arises out of uncontrolled negative thinking.
Here are some strategies that meditation offers to overcome your anxiety and stage freight.
Meditation Strategy 1
Keep Calm – Because of performance anxiety, people often rush through their presentation, speech or other performances. As a result, in spite of knowing everything, they fail to give their best. So keep calm and start slowly. Give yourself time to get used to the audience and get into you comfortable pace.
Meditation Strategy 2
Take Deep Breaths - Be it stress or nervousness, deep breaths can provide you with that feeling of relaxation. So 5-10 minutes prior to going on stage, take deep breaths for about 3 minutes to keep yourself relaxed and calm.
Meditation Strategy 3
Visualization - Visualization techniques can be particularly effective as it creates a positive image in a person's mind about the desired outcome. Mentally creating images of a successful event, and even projecting oneself after the successful performance alleviates feelings of anxiety.
Meditation Strategy 4
Think about it - Visualize yourself on the stage, standing in front of an audience that’s listening, smiling and applauding you. Think about how talented you are, and imagine yourself in past performances where you impressed your audience. Change your point of view and think about how badly the audience needs the information you want to give them.
2) FOCUS ON THE GIVING NOT THE RECEIVING - Stage fright is not really about the fear of the stage. It is the fear of being laughed at and judged by the people who are watching you. In reality, everyone present in the audience is not there to laugh at you, judge you or criticise you. They are there to watch you perform and hence you need to give your best shot. So, instead of focusing on the people and what they are going to think about you, focus on what you have to present and do it the best way you can. This will ease the pressure which is already building.
3) PRACTICE MAKES IT EASY - One of the most effective ways to deal with stage fright is to get on stage as much as possible, regardless of the discomfort. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.

The Secret Is To Say YES To The Important Things In Life!

Sally Forrest
17 May 2017

At a recent Meditation workshop, the students were sharing why they attended the Meditation class, what was their driver?

It was one of those Ah-Ha moments for me, as their responses are all too familiar.
  • Life is too stressful
  • I have “lost” myself
  • I have become sick
  • It’s all too much and I simply need to de-stress
  • I am not in control of my thoughts
  • There has to be more to life than the one I am living
  • I’m depressed and unhappy
We get so busy that we forget to notice what we are doing with our time and what we are saying “Yes” to in life.

In a world of far too many distractions we are being constantly pulled here and there and we no longer take ownership of our time.

We allow “other people’s“ agendas to occupy our day, it really is that simple.

An e-mail comes in, we react.

A text message beeps and we look at it within 3 seconds usually.

A what’s app group is set up and before too long 15 messages a day are flying here and there taking up time, energy and effort.

We also allow other people to occupy our mind space, and often these are people we hardly know.

Admit it you scroll down Facebook and take in all those images and stories and before too long these people (who you do not even know personally) have taken root in your mind space. You even find that your daily communication starts to change to what you saw on social media today.

Then there is Linked in, Private Messaging, Instagram, Twitter and a whole host of other distractions to bombard your precious mind space with.

OK ENOUGH.
It’s time to STOP, REVIEW and then take DIFFERENT ACTIONS

Here is my 3-step process to support you :
  1. DELETE any accounts that no longer serve you. Too drastic? Well then limit the time you spend on them. For example, spend 15 minutes 3 times a day checking the social sites as a MAXIMUM.
  2. Focus on what you WANT to spend time on. List these things and plan them in the diary.
  3. Plan in “Me time”, time to do the things that relax and pamper you.
Try it for a week and soon your life will be back on track and the stress levels will reduce.

You were not born to react to a beeping phone, walk the streets staring at it, panic if you left it behind, take it to bed with you, check it as soon as you wake up……. take back your life and make a change!

You have one life – LIVE It fully with awareness and full responsibility.

What Is Meditation – Meditation For Beginners

Sally Forrest
16 November 2016

The term meditation is often misunderstood.

Many assume that it is difficult to learn and that you have to sit cross legged on the floor for hours on end and achieve a state of “no thought”.

Many think it is linked to certain religions and is not for everyone.
Allow us to clarify exactly what meditation is and how it can support you in life.

Meditation simply is a way that allows you to see how your thoughts are affecting your reality.

“As you think, so you become” is the basis of meditation.

Once you start to see your thoughts and understand that they really do affect how you feel and act in life, then you have a choice to take.

“Do I want to keep thinking in a certain way – always reacting to the external world and its stimulus, and getting disturbed and upset about things I cannot control or do I want to choose my thoughts in a considered way and respond to life differently.”

Let me give you an example; you are driving to work in the morning and a car suddenly cuts into your lane with no indication.

The first reaction could be to horn the driver, get angry and allow this anger to translate into actions (you pull an angry face at the driver- raise a finger in the air – get angry and rant to those in your car, naming and blaming the driver in front as “an idiot/stupid“)

I think you know the scene and it’s a familiar one.

In the moment of anger, you lose all of your happiness and it was not even something that you did – it was as a result of an external event.

With meditation, you first see what is happening and then see how your thoughts are reacting to the external situation. You then simply allow yourself to make a decision – do these thoughts support me and my peaceful/calm mind or not?

The event has happened already and you cannot change or control the external event. However, what you can control is how your respond to it.

Meditation provides you with tools and techniques that allow you to choose how you want to respond to life instead of reacting to it.

It is easy to learn and at SoulCentre® techniques are shared that you can apply in every situation that life offers.

At SoulCentre® we teach through life stories and practical techniques that will suit every occasion.

We teach from beginner all the way to teacher level. Many of our teachers now travel all over the world teaching and sharing the wisdom with others.

Anyone and everyone can learn, children from the age of 6 all the way to seniors of 86 have passed through our Meditation Made Simple® programs.

So what are you waiting for?

Sign up today for a class and see how life changes.
It will be the best decision you have ever made.

Reiki Singapore – Healing For All

Sally Forrest
2 November 2016

I first discovered Reiki over 15 years ago whilst living in Thailand.

As a medical pharmacist I found it fascinating to see how healing can take place naturally and how once the body and mind are peaceful and positive then healing follows.

I am a firm believer that the body has an innate intelligence and intuitively “knows” how to heal itself, we simply have to get into the flow of being in harmony and balance and allow the miracles to happen.

Reiki is easy to learn and super easy to use, all you need to do is to put your hands on yourself and the healing flows.
Having taught thousands of students, from all ages and all walks of life, it is fascinating to see that Reiki affects people primarily on one of 3 levels :
  • The Physical Level  (healings occur in the body)
  • The Emotional Level (negative emotions are replaced with a more pragmatic and positive approach to life)
  •  The Mental Level (how you think about life starts to change, and the small issues no longer become issues)
Students arrive for our Reiki programs not knowing what to expect, there is natural apprehension and maybe even a “fear of the unknown”.

However they soon discover and experience the Reiki “magical effects” and I always say its like receiving an “eye bath”, suddenly the world looks different and you move in the flow of life in a smooth and easy way.

Synchronicity starts to kick in and amazing events unfold just at the right time and the results are super positive.

At SoulCentre we teach Reiki to many professionals, Spa Therapists, Reiki Practitioners and medical doctors.

We provide professional and complete training for students to become Reiki practitioners and teachers.

We teach to high standards because we want everyone who receives Reiki to do so in a professional and supportive manner.

Reiki really is for everyone and the benefits are instant.

It is the best gift that you can give to yourself and it is with you for life.

Register for one of our Reiki programs and see how life changes…… it will be the start of a new and exciting chapter in life.
