Breathe Right, Live Right

When the breath wanders the mind is also unsteady.
But when the breath is calmed the mind, too, will be still.
 - Svatmarama

Although breathing is one of the most vital functions of human life, it is little understood and often done improperly.  Most people breathe shallowly and haphazardly, going against the natural rhythmic movement of the body’s respiratory system.

The importance of deep, even breathing in meditation cannot be over emphasised.  Deep breathing is always a good relaxation exercise and helps to still the mind.

Deep breathing relaxes your nerves whilst meditation helps your mind to be calm.   When combining deep breathing and meditation both your mind and body get a rest.  You will feel totally refreshed and ready to take on the world again!

Breathing techniques, which are used in all types of meditation, are extremely relaxing for the nervous system.

Breathe right, live right!

Meditation - Stick To It!

A large number of people try meditation at some point in their lives.  However only a small number of people stick with it for the long term.

There are a lot of reasons why people stop meditating, one of these may well be the “I don’t have the time” factor!  But as I have mentioned previously, you need to MAKE the time to reap the rewards from meditation.

Meditation is something that anyone can choose to do.  You need to decide to practice meditation, and then nothing will stop you.

To begin, you need to select a technique that is comfortable for you and do it consistently and regularly for some time, every day.  If possible, do it at the same time every day so that it quickly becomes a habit.

In the modern world, students often become impatient easily and tend to practice meditation only for brief periods and then give up.  They conclude that there is no value in it.  This is like a child who plants a seed and is frustrated when there is no growth in a week!

You will definitely experience benefits and see progress if you meditate regularly.  At first, you may notice progress with immediate physical relaxation and calmness.  Later you may notice other benefits such as good health, happiness and joy.

So remember that just as it takes a while for a seed to sprout, it also may take a while for you to reap the benefits of meditation, but they WILL come! Just stick to it.

Remember – we always have enough time for what is important to us.

Dive Into It

We live in a high tech and high connectivity world, where anything one wants to know can be found at the touch of a button on our smartphone.  But can one really learn meditation from YouTube?

Meditation involves wisdom, tools and effective techniques, and the practice of the processes you learn, under the proper guidance of a trained and qualified teacher. Meditation is both a subtle and precise approach.  It is learning to pay attention to and understanding the various levels of ourselves – the body, the breathing, process, and the aspects of stress and so on.  It is first understanding and then clearly seeing how we create our own experience of reality.

While it may be easy and require less effort to watch a short video about meditation on YouTube, investing the time energy and effort to search for a good teacher to learn personally from them will pay you back with multiple rewards.

However you chose to learn meditation, you will find that as time progresses you will begin to enjoy the positive results it brings. Diving into the wisdom of meditation brings increased joyfulness, clarity and awareness.  It also helps you to identify and release the physical, nervous and mental symptoms of stress.

Learning about your inner self and how best to meditate can totally transform your life.

It’s an investment of your time and energy that is truly worth making.

Meditation activates Concentration

The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large – Confucius

An essential part of meditation is to learn how to keep your attention focused; this ability of the mind is known as concentration. Concentration helps us in many ways - it assists us in grasping quickly what another person says, it increases our ability to remember things, it helps us to focus on our goals and achieve them more easily. Concentration so focuses your mind that solutions come surprisingly fast and easily – they almost flow into you. And to realise that you can reap these benefits only by thinking intensively for a few minutes makes the whole process even more rewarding.

Once you have developed the ability to concentrate, your mind becomes your faithful servant – you can tell it to do exactly what you want, and it will follow. You can throw out all negative thoughts and focus only on positive ones. You can decide to be with people who make you happy and comfortable and stay away from those who are negative and difficult to deal with. You can look for work that interests you rather than slog away at things that are boring and dreary.

Meditation helps you acquire the ability to flow towards your best and highest life. Meditate to celebrate your life!
