A peaceful life is what all human beings are meant to live, and aspire for. As we get embroiled in our day-to-day concerns, worries, regrets and guilt, we forget this fundamental reality. We waste far too much energy on things that are not a reflection of the real world and in the process, become so accustomed to the negative state of mind that we assume they make up our reality.
This reality then begins to
pervade our inner being and negatively affects our thoughts, our actions and
our relationships to the exclusion of positive impulses, feelings and emotions.
Often this makes us become irritable and tense all the time.
All through our lives we
carry with us two heavy burdens – the thoughts and regrets of the past and the
worries and expectations of the future. These burdens weigh us down, and also
take our attention away from life as it happens. We constantly live in the past
and the future, and in the bargain, we sacrifice the present.
Meditation allows us to see reality
as it is, and take a rest from our deeply ingrained and conditioned patterns of
behavior.
Meditation is not necessarily
a way to make things easier, it is a way to make things real. What meditation
does is make you more aware, so if you have a painful problem in life,
meditation will probably bring your attention to it to enable you to accept the
truth.
Meditation will not let you
hide from reality any more. It will
compel you to step right into the middle of it and face it. Issues can no longer be avoided or wished
away. They must be accepted fully and then the choice of what you wish your
future to be must be exercised.
Change is a natural process
of life and leads to personal growth if we nurture it with positive energies.
If you opt to do this through the techniques of meditation you will be able to
achieve your life goals more easily and in a more enduring manner.
