A precious teacher

All of us have days from time to time when it feels like the world is against us or that the chaos we are experiencing will never end. On such days, one negative circumstance leads to another. On such a day, you may wonder whether anything in your life will ever go right again.

However, if you expand your awareness, a bad day, like any other day, can be a gift.
Having a bad day can show you that it is time to slow down, change course, or lighten up. A bad day can help you to learn wisdom you might otherwise have overlooked or discounted.
Bad days can certainly cause you to experience uncomfortable feelings you would prefer to avoid, yet a bad day may also give you a potent means to learn about yourself.

Bad days can only have a long-term negative effect on us if we let them. It is far better to ask yourself what you can learn from these kinds of days.

Bad days contribute to the people we become. Though we may feel discouraged and distressed on our bad days, a bad day can teach us patience and perseverance. It is important to remember that your attitude drives your destiny and that one negative experience does not have to be the beginning of an ongoing stroke of bad luck.

A bad day comes as a teacher because it is one day among many good days – otherwise, we wouldn’t even bother to acknowledge it as a bad day. Know too, that everybody has bad days, you are not alone, and the world is not against you. Tomorrow is guaranteed to be a brighter day.

On a bad day, remember ‘This too shall pass away’…and do your best to learn what you can from this precious teacher.

Knowing yourself; Loving yourself

We have heard it often enough - We are not human beings having spiritual experiences; instead, we are spiritual beings having human experiences.

We hear this yet we do not take the time to really acknowledge the truth of these statements. Integrating this idea into how we see ourselves can expand our sense of who we are and help us appreciate ourselves as brave spirits on an important mission to learn and grow here on earth.

Remembering who we are can give us the patience to persevere when we become overwhelmed or frustrated. It can give us the courage to work through the most daunting challenges and help us trust the ancient wisdom we carry within us.

We have chosen to be on earth because there is something we want to learn that can only happen by inhabiting a body. Some of us are here to help others, repay a debt, learn about love, or teach forgiveness. Most of us are here for a combination of reasons, and we carry this information deep in our souls; all we have to do is remember.

So as you go through your journey, today and everyday, try not to forget how brave you are, being here now.
Honour yourself. Love yourself for who you are – a spiritual being here on a temporary physical journey.

An Ancient Secret of Happiness Revealed

I was fortunate to receive one of the most ancient secrets that will keep you happy every day for all your years. Here it is. Use it and change your life

The ancient secret of happiness is simple, and effective - Count your blessings everyday and be grateful for all that you already have whether it be a home, car, savings, your family, or a partner with a shoulder you can lean on during rough times.

I want you to remember that you are already wealthy in so many ways and you may not even know it. People all around the world would be envious to be in your shoes.

Counting your blessings everyday works. I vouch for its effectiveness, as do all my teachers.

I encourage you to share this blog with anyone else you think needs a helping hand through unhappiness or chaos of any kind. Pay it forward.

The Eagle, our teacher

During a 2 hour walk through the MacRitchie Reservoir today, I happened to spot a majestic eagle soaring high in the open sky as it surveyed everything beneath with an eye of mastery. Made me realise just how enlightened a being the Eagle is.

Eagles have evolved to soar high above the earth, giving them a perspective that is unavailable to any other creature.

From their great height, riding on the wind and sunlight, they see the bigger picture and constantly remind us that there is a bigger reality to our lives. When we get bogged down with the details and routine of daily life, eagles help us to remember that we are part of a larger plan, have a larger purpose to fulfil, and that everything fits together beautifully and perfectly.

Once you can develop the eagle’s expanded perspective you too can become a visionary able to focus on the exact spot that truly needs your attention in the moment. With their amazing focus, eagles teach us to follow our personal vision. Additionally, the eagle’s ability to live on land but visit the sky at will is a good reminder for us all. This unique quality of the eagle reminds us that their strength and survival comes from connecting regularly with the spirit within and bringing the guidance received from the inner self into earthly affairs.

As the eagle soars amongst the heavenly bodies of the sun, the stars, and the wind that moves the clouds, it reminds us to always consider the larger picture, one that inspires us to move through the world we inhabit with strength, certainty, and grace.

Whenever you see the eagle next, know that you have a lot to learn from this great master.

Shine Your Light

Each of us is born into this world with unique gifts.
Within us is a light that can potentially make the world a more beautiful place. But in many, that light lies dormant, snuffed out by fears and feelings of in-adequacy.

It is important to understand that when we undermine the light by hiding our strengths and skills, and quashing our dreams, we deny ourselves and others a wealth of evolutionary experiences. Your abilities are a part of who you are and when you take pride in them, you express the light within.

When you dare to share your light with the world, the beauty and perfection of your soul becomes visible. You become a whole being, created by the unleashing effect of your vast potential. Whether you are a wonderful orator, a first-rate dancer, quick with numbers, or a natural leader, you’ll come to understand that you do yourself injustice, and the world no favours when you hold yourself back.

You were meant to shine your light. You are designed by Nature and billions of years of evolution to be excellent. If you have hidden your light for so long that it has shrunk to an ember, make a list of everything you do well. Then ask yourself how you can positively contribute with those abilities in your daily life.

The gifts you were born with are meant to have a purpose. They are meant to be shared. While you may never know what impact your light has had on others, you can be sure that when you accept your talents and share them fully with others, you will spread more light in the world.

Use Obstacles as Stepping Stones

There are only two ways to look at the world: the responsive/positive way or the reactive/negative way.

People with a negative mindset choose a victim stance, seeing life as a continuous succession of problems and a process of unfairness and oppression. They don't expect a lot and they don't get much. When things go wrong, they shrug their shoulders and passively accept that this is the way life is and there isn't anything they can do to make it better. They complain, crib and whinge throughout life that things are wrong but never take personal responsibility to make things as they want them to be. They talk their talk.
These are the eternal re-actors.

On the other hand, people with a positive mindset see the world around them as filled with opportunities and possibilities. They believe that everything happens as part of a great process designed to make them successful and happy. They approach their lives, their work, and their relationships with optimism, cheerfulness, and a general attitude of positive expectations. They expect a lot and they are seldom disappointed. If things don't turn out as they want them to, they take personal responsibility for changing them and put their actions where their mouth is. They walk their talk.
These are the eternal creators.

One world, 2 different perspectives. Thus 2 different realities.

Which one do you choose?

The Sun always shines !

There are times when negativity, nay-sayers or unexpected events cause us to momentarily lose sight of the light of our dreams and goals. It is at these times that remembering the sun can help us.

The sun always shines; even when it seems that it doesn’t. If a dark cloud obscures the light and warmth of the sun you can be sure that it will soon pass, and the light will shine through once again.

It’s good to remember that despite external appearances the sun is shining always, even right now as I sit on my desk at night writing this to you. We may not be able to see it at this very moment, but it is there and it’s shining bright. And it’s only a matter of time before it will shine on us again.

The sun has been seen as a symbol of true wisdom, from ancient times to modern myth. By its example it teaches us that even if life feels like it is at a standstill, sometimes all we need to do is be patient and wait for the time when things are better again.

We can also choose to follow the way of the sun and continue doing our work and shining our light, even when we can’t immediately see positive results. In doing so we exercise our patience, making sure we are prepared when opportunity knocks and all other elements are in their right and perfect places.

The sun also reminds us that our own shining truth is never extinguished. Our light shines within us at all times, no matter what else occurs around us. This is why I chose the sun as the symbol of SoulKids, our life-skills program for children which is changing so many children in Singapore and all over the world.

SoulKids encourages every child to shine his/her light as brightly as they can regardless of external circumstances. To live with a strong sense of self-belief and to have your happiness and success in your own hands – what greater training can you receive? This is the gift of SoulKids.

So whether you are a child or an adult, remember the sun today and shine your own light
