Meditation – Learning to understand our true selves

In every culture and society, all over the world, people are educated in the skills needed to function in that culture – how to talk, think, work and investigate the objects of the external world. At school and college we learn all about sciences in order to understand the world we live in, but no one really teaches us how to understand or attend to our inner dimensions. We merely learn to assimilate the goals, fashions and values of our society, without really knowing ourselves.

Meditation is a process of learning to pay attention to and understanding the various levels of ourselves – the mental, the emotional and the physical. Meditation allows us to become familiar with the thoughts we carry, the emotions we feel and the actions we take.

Meditation involves a type of inner attention that is quiet, concentrated and at the same time, relaxed. There is nothing strenuous or difficult about creating this inner attention.  In fact, meditation is a process that is restful and relaxing for the mind.

Anyone can take up meditation. It is a simple, natural and effortless practice to still the mind and make us experience peace and tranquility within, leading us to see our true inner selves.

Meditation also helps us to live life the way it was always meant to be, a life full of love, laughter, freedom and good health.

Meditation - My Daily Unbreakable Habit

All of us are creatures of habit. It was Aristotle who first said “we are what we repeatedly do” and this great secret has helped me to make my life what it is today. And now I want it to help you too.

Our intentions, wishes and desires are never as strong as the actions we take regularly. One of the greatest secrets of life and success you can learn is that habits are more transformational than wishes or desires.

Many years ago when I was introduced to the wisdom of meditation by my enlightened teachers, I quickly realized the benefits that would come to me if only I could make it a part of my day, every day.

I must admit that initially it was a challenge, but I stuck with it and refused to give up. Given time and a generous dose of discipline and will power, meditation began to entrench itself into my mindset and my daily living. I made it a point to remember the wisdom of meditation a few time a day in my mind, and I also began to practice certain techniques on a daily basis.

As time passed I began to see myself change. I became calmer, more stable, happier and more accepting – just some of the benefits that meditation brings. I began to see the truth of Aristotle’s words.

Today as a teacher of meditation I want you to know that there is nothing more important for a student than to make sure that meditation becomes a part of your daily habits.
Just fifteen minutes twice a day is enough to bring positive change into your life, just as brushing your teeth twice a day is enough to keep them clean and healthy.

Our habits make us, but we make our habits first - and this is the work we must do.

Meditation Benefits All Aspects of Life

The benefits that meditation brings touch every aspect of a person’s life.

On a mental level, the mind becomes clearer and more still, as the endless chain of thoughts slows down. Focus increases and the ability to tune out distractions is strengthened. Meditation also makes the mindset more positive and purposeful.

On the emotional level meditation brings stability. Emotional mood swings decrease and inner peace and contentment replace the pendulum swings of wild emotion.

On the physical level, the body benefits because of a quieter mind and more peaceful emotions. A peaceful mind also allows the body to rejuvenate and recover faster thereby strengthening the natural healing process of the body.

Our daily behavior towards others also becomes kinder, more compassionate and this brings external rewards. Relationships benefit, friendships become stronger and abundance in the external world becomes easier.

Truly, meditation is the best investment that one can make, for its benefits are numerous and long lasting. Start your journey with ‘Meditation Made Simple’ and make your life happier, healthier, abundant and more peaceful too.
