3 Secrets To Raising A Happy Child

3 Secrets To Raising A Happy Child
By Vikas Malkani
Founder of SoulKids®

Raising happy children is the goal of every parent. Children are naturally drawn towards happiness, and as parents, we must understand what it takes to nurture and raise a happy child.

Here are my top 3 secrets to raising a happy child.

1.    Feed their self-confidence
As parents, it is our responsibility to raise our child’s sense of self-esteem so high that nothing or no one can break it.
Boost their confidence by always encouraging them to try new things. Appreciate their efforts not just the results. Support their interests, desires and strengths. Encourage them to do more of the things they are naturally good at. This provides a positive reinforcement and helps them grow in confidence; it also strengthens them to produce positive results in their endeavors.
Make sure that you do not compare them with others. Comparisons with peers devalues their self-confidence and also affects their inner beliefs.

2.    Make your home a positive one
Children learn more by imitation than by instruction. Be aware of your words, actions and behavior and keep them positive, as your children are watching you constantly.
Engage in fun activities together. Develop a positive and happy mindset yourself so they learn by watching you.
Let them see you making mistakes, learning from it and moving forward. Encourage open communication so they know they can always come to you for guidance and not be judged.

3.    Inspire, don’t perspire your children
Motivate children, don’t dictate to them. Acknowledge and reinforce good work and behavior. Notice them doing things right, don’t just catch them doing things wrong.
Encourage them to make small efforts and support them. It is always the small victories that lead to greater ones.
Children learn best through positive and constructive feedback. Remember failure has a purpose too – it shows you what you need to work on. Help them develop this growth mindset.

Meditation is an “essential life-skill” for Children

Rashmi, one of SoulCentre’s Meditation Teachers, was recently interviewed and asked a question about meditation for children at SoulCentre. We would like to share her thoughts with you.

"Children are our future leaders. We send our children to schools for academia, to learn sports, languages, essentially with the idea for them to excel in the world.

With stress levels going up in academic performance, an increase in instances of children being bullied and peer pressure, it is even more critical in today’s world for the children to understand the power of thoughts.

Meditation is an essential life-skill as it teaches the science behind the ancient wisdom and gives the tools to empower oneself from within.

We are so focused on the outer world that we forget the need to master the inner world.

Mediation helps build focus and enables the child to see and direct their own thoughts.

Once the children are equipped with the skill of Meditation, they become calmer and happier.

Children are then capable of designing their own blue prints and to go out and lead the world.”

Thanks Rashmi, there truly is no greater gift for a child than being able to manage their thoughts and emotions and thus lead a happy and successful life.

My Journey as a SoulKids Mentor...

After going through a particularly challenging time with health, I enrolled in a ‘Meditation Made Simple’ class in London. Eventually, I found myself travelling to Singapore to continue my learning in meditation with Vikas Malkani the founder of this program as it had such a profound effect on my life.

During my training with Vikas & Sally at SoulCentre, for the first time I understood the importance of silence, living in the now, connection to the senses, breath and self-awareness. I also learned how to manifest, about frequency vibrations and the corresponding emotions of love, gratitude and joy.

Karma, compassion and the ego were topics of particular fascination. It was quite revelatory to discover that we are all consciously connected and that we create our own reality. It was also quite astounding to learn that the universe is a hologram and that a change in one place is an instantaneous change everywhere.

While in Singapore I also undertook SoulKids Mentor Training to be trained as a mentor in the SoulKids self-confidence workshop. This training and hands on experience with children ages 5 through 11 reminded me of the wonder, curiosity, creativity and individual uniqueness of each of them.
How lovely to see a shy and troubled child open like a beautiful flower. During the SoulKids training for children, the hugs, games and lessons went of for 2 days but have forever changed the way I see people and life. Each of us has a unique purpose on this planet. Through conditioning, we begin to doubt and fear who we really are. We develop blocks and begin to subconsciously create negative elements in our life and in the world.

Upon returning to London from Singapore, I found that I was much changed. I would spontaneously fall into awe when looking out of the window at the wonder and beauty of nature. I had absolute clarity about my life and my path. I became unbelievably sensitive to all stimuli, artificial and natural. My food choices changed and I could no longer drink caffeine and alcohol. In addition, I only see people from their energy vibration, not their physicality or intellect.

I am full of compassion and love for humanity and plan to spend each day left to me fulfilling my purpose to help others.
